A new way to understand the world

We turn the day's events into short cards that show what happened and where every claim came from.

What we're building

Trippy is a news reader. It runs on the web and on iPhone, and it lives at trippy.ai.

Read an event in a minute

A card says what happened, who was involved, and what has changed since yesterday. No six paragraphs to read first.

Every claim shows its source

You can see where something came from without leaving the card, so checking a story no longer takes nine open tabs and a guess about which outlet to trust.

Stories you can follow

Related cards collect into a story. Come back next week and the thread is still there, with the new parts marked.

Sensemakers

People who know the subject

Reporting does not always tell you everything worth knowing about an event. Sensemakers are people with real expertise in a field, approved individually and not by signing up, and they work in the open next to the feed.

  • They publish their own events and stories, video included, from a studio built for it.

  • They add takes: a short comment on an event, signed with their name and their field, sitting under the card it answers.

  • Their badge travels with everything they publish, and their profile lists the fields they actually work in, so you can weigh a take against the person giving it.

Why we're building it

There is more text every month and less reason to trust any of it. Anyone can now produce a plausible article for almost nothing, and nobody has made it cheaper to check one.

We think structure helps. A claim that arrives with its source attached, next to the other claims about the same event, can be judged in seconds instead of researched. The reader can then spend their attention on what the news means, not on reconstructing what happened.

How we work

The five values we hire against.

  • Be scrappy

    We ship anyway.

  • Be transparent

Problems get shared early, not once they are safe.

  • Deliver results

You own the outcome, not the ticket.

  • Collaborate

The best idea wins, whoever brought it.

  • Think big

Better to aim at something big and fall short of it than to land something small.
